Teaching and Training

8907049595_0fe77fe485_zAndrew is Head Coach at ComedySportz Portland, where he performs, directs and coaches improvisational acting, sketch, hosting skills and applied improv for business. He has also performed longform improv with groups including Rap City, Green with Andy, Peachy Chicken, MST Tribute Show, Match Game, Concerto for Piano and Mime, Short & Sweet and Fit to Print.

He has taught improv across the USA and around the world, with an emphasis on fast-moving classes that are heavy on stage time and side-coaching. Andrew’s philosophy is that we learn by doing, and he likes to gently guide people past their blockers to find real tools they can apply immediately to their own performance. He also coaches individual teams to help them find their best dynamics, format and connection.

For five straight years he taught a 3-hour applied improvisation for business at the Open Source Conference (OSCON) in Portland, Oregon and Amsterdam, Netherlands, helping technical leaders use improv techniques to build better relationships, communication and ideation in their teams. He is also a regular teacher at the ComedySportz World Championship in various US cities.

Some of his most popular classes include:

  • How to Teach Improv
  • Face Your Fears
  • Accept Everything
