Comedy Writing
Plays, sketch, newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, love letters, manifestos. Andrew's career as a writer spans multiple media with one constant: Very funny!
In Andrew's Words
Andrew’s first love in comedy has always been writing, and he regularly draws from his 20+ years as a professional humor writer in everything from stand-up to playwriting to radio ads.
As a playwright, Andrew has authored numerous plays and comedy shows, including Big Game Gaieties for Ram’s Head Theatrical Society and AkPIRG Follies for Out North Theater Company, which he also directed. His play Pounding Vipers was produced at the University of Alaska and his trio of plays for young adults, Frozen Carrots, Sky Orbison and the Earth Protectors and I Just Don’t Buy That have had hundreds of performances in Portland Schools, where they continue to tour. His play Whippoorwill, which was originally written as part of the Coho Productions 24 Hour Plays, was also produced at Olin College in Massachusetts.
Andrew has also worked as a humor columnist, writer and editor for newspapers including the San Francisco Chronicle, Anchorage Daily News and Palo Alto Weekly, as well as national magazines. He has also worked in advertising for The Nerland Agency and Eye Cue Productions, where he won numerous awards for funny radio commercials.
Current projects include the one-act play Vampire Zombies for Hanukkah, and a one-man show based on his experience working in local advertising.
